Radon Gas Testing

Radon is a naturally occurring, invisible, odorless gas that comes from deposits of uranium in soil, rock, and water. It is harmlessly dispersed in outdoor air, but when trapped in buildings, can be harmful, especially at elevated levels. Its presence in your home can pose a danger to your family’s health. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and is the second leading cause of lung cancer in America. Radon claims approximately 20,000 lives annually. This deadly gas is a radioactive decay product of radium, which is a decay product of uranium. Uranium and radium are both common elements in soil. The EPA has a booklet “A Citizen’s Guide to Radon” which discusses general information related to radon.  https://www.epa.gov/radon/pubs/citguide.html

Termite Inspections

Termites cause millions of dollars worth of damage to homes in the U.S every year. Termite inspections can be performed at the same time as the home inspection or as an independent service. A termite inspection involves visual evaluation and probing of the readily accessible areas of a home for evidence of wood-destroying insects (WDI). This will also cover wood-destroying organisms (WDO) and conducive conditions. The inspector will visually inspect the interior of the home (including attics and sub-spaces, such as basements and crawlspaces, which are readily accessible) and the exterior of the property.  After the inspection has been performed, the findings are reported on the North Carolina Wood Destroying Inspect Report (WDIR100). More information about this report can be found at https://www.agr.state.nc.us/SPCAP/structural/pubs/wdir.htm
*Termite inspections are performed by AAA Exterminating, PCO license #1776PW
